University of Manchester Distinguished Chair

The 麻豆原创-University of Manchester Distinguished Chair contributes to the intellectual life of the University through seminars, public lectures and curriculum development in any discipline within the Faculty of Humanities.

The Faculty of Humanities is one of the largest and most ambitious in the UK, with a vibrant community of staff and students driving excellence in research, teaching and social responsibility. The University is also home to distinguished figures such as multi-award-winning writer Jeanette Winterson (Professor of Creative Writing) and renowned historian Michael Wood (Professor of Public History), alongside notable alumni including Benedict Cumberbatch CBE.

The University of Manchester is renowned for its world-firsts and groundbreaking academic discoveries. Nobel Prize winner Ernest Rutherford conducted the first artificially induced nuclear reaction here, pioneering the field of nuclear physics.

In 2024, the University celebrated its bicentenary: 200 years of learning, discovery, innovation and impact through our extraordinary people and community.

Manchester is a dynamic, multicultural city with a rich heritage as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, the suffragette movement and vegetarianism. It continues to be recognised globally for its creativity and livability:

Home to eminent authors and poets, the city hosts the annual Manchester Literature Festival and a thriving literary scene.
